I've been spending some time fathoming out gain staging I'm a bit confused though.. It only appears to affect the volume of the track as I monitor it while previewing the audio.. The only way to drop the volume of the track to acceptable levels as being indicated by the VU meter plugin is to reduce the volume of the track by applying a volume envelope. HERE
